Abdominal and pelvic pain in children

Abdominal pain in children is a common issue, but most cases are not serious. Children under the age of 11 are more likely to complain of stomach pain. Changes in gut habits and eating may be the cause of the pain. At-home aid can help with mild pain.

Pain that stops without other symptoms is most often not serious.

Some causes of stomach pain

  • Injuries
  • Stomach infections
  • Urinary tract infections
  • Constipation

Serious conditions

  • Appendicitis
  • Intestinal problems
  • Lead poisoning

Toddlers and babies may show pain differently than older children, who can describe their pain more clearly. Stomach pain can happen many times within a period of months, or it can happen once.
