Immunizations for kids and teens

Vaccines play a huge part in keeping our preteens and teens healthy!

Teenage vaccines start at 11 to 16 years of age: Tdap, meningococcal and human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccines have a huge impact in keeping our bodies healthy and strong. They help put off future health problems if exposed.

  • Tdap vaccine is a blended immunizing agent used to protect against sickness causing lockjaw and whooping cough. One dose is given at 11 years of age and again every 10 years.
  • Meningococcal vaccine, also known as MCV4 or Menveo, is a dose that protects against four groups of meningococcal disease (A, C, W and Y, tiny germs that can only be seen under a microscope). One dose is needed at 11 to 12 years of age, and a booster at 15 to 16 years of age is urged.
  • HPV vaccine protects against nine types of HPV cancers. Two doses of the shot are needed; the first dose at 9 to 12 years of age and the second dose 6 to 12 months after the first dose.
