Intimate partner violence and health

Intimate partner violence (IPV) happens when one person hurts or controls their partner. This can include hitting, pushing, yelling, or keeping someone away from friends and family.

IPV can harm a person's health in many ways. It can cause injuries, pain, and trouble sleeping. It can also lead to stress, sadness, and fear. When someone is being hurt, they may be too scared or ashamed to go to the doctor, even when they are sick or injured. This makes their health worse over time. Children who see violence may also feel worried or unsafe, and this can affect their growth and learning.

No one should have to live in fear. Help is available through teachers, counselors, doctors, and community hotlines. Everyone deserves care, respect and a safe place to live
