Know your chemo
Getting the news that you or a loved one has cancer can be a stressful time for all people. More than half of the people with cancer in the U.S. are age 65 or older and do not feel symptoms until it is in the later stages.
Chemotherapy is one of the top care choices and is used nearly half the time. Chemo uses drugs to wipe out cancer cells and stop growth. Chemo is a useful tool to fight cancer, but there can be more risks when treating older people. It can be more unsafe for older people and can lead to more money spent on health care. It can also cause caregiver burnout.
To learn more about care choices, talk to a geriatrician to check your health and risk.
