What is a geriatrician?
People 65 and older are more likely to have many health problems than younger adults. Medicines and health problems can affect people differently.
Geriatricians are experts in health care needs for older adults. They also know the mental and social issues that patients face.
Your health care expert
There is no right age you should start seeing a geriatrician. Your main doctor may send you to one if you have health concerns caused by aging. That could include bladder problems, falls or memory problems.
Older people who are frail and have trouble with everyday tasks often benefit from a geriatrician's care.
