Class 1: Control Your Cholesterol

  • Explains LDL ("bad") and HDL ("good") cholesterol
  • Reviews how plaque buildup increases heart attack and stroke risk
  • Discusses genetics, lifestyle, and age-related risk factors
  • Offers guidance on medication options, such as statins
  • Encourages heart-healthy habits: nutrition, movement, and weight management

Class 2: Understanding and Managing Blood Pressure

  • Defines blood pressure and explains systolic and diastolic numbers
  • Identifies hypertension risks, including different health conditions
  • Reviews controllable and noncontrollable risk factors
  • Teaches how people can measure blood pressure themselves
  • Explains when to call a doctor vs. when to call 911
  • Promotes a healthy, low-salt diet; being active; healthy sleep habits; and tobacco cessation
